Thank you for reading about how I might be able to help you in the challenges you may be facing. I believe that in a safe environment, people are able to grow to be their best selves and create the life they want. And I see myself as someone who walks along side you in this exploration.
I see finding your best self and life as both a process and a destination(s), and a destination that might change over time. Our process together will be to help you create the roadmap and destination, look at the steps needed to progress along this path and support you both in your journey and getting to your destination(s). I am here to help you explore and create. If you wish to create and follow that roadmap closely to always be able to know where you are, where you are going and how you will get there, we can structure our time together in that way. However, we can also explore in a more organic way, to allow for detours to respond to your needs as they arise. My role will be to guide you in a way that is best suited to you. To that end, people describe my psychotherapy style as caring, accepting, supportive, collaborative and empowering.
In our first meetings, we will get to know each other and explore your needs and what works best for you. As part of the process of building a relationship, we will determine if I am the right therapist for you, and that we are a good “fit”. If I’m not the best fit for you, I’m happy to help you find someone else to help you in your journey.
In our first and ongoing meetings, we’ll talk about what you want, how to move towards getting this, and what it will take for you to feel some relief and create the life you want. We will also look at whenever we hit a roadblock and what is standing in your way of getting where you want to go. Sessions will also focus on evaluating how things are going, and what is working and what is not. We will always be focused on what you see as the roadmap you have set for yourself, and what adjustments might need to be made to this as we go along.
In moving along your journey, you are always in the drivers seat. I see my job as giving you the tools to navigate whatever path or paths you choose to walk down. I use different psychotherapy approaches to help you on your journey. These include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and couples counseling, including helping with conflict resolution, effective communication, and increasing intimacy. I will also sometimes use psychological testing and complete a psychological assessment to help get a better idea of what is going on for you, to help us figure out the best approach and direction. If I think this will be useful we’ll talk about my thinking on this, what the psychological evaluation will include and how it might be useful.
In keeping with my approach, the process will always be collaborative, I will make sure to provide you with information, answer questions and leave the decision about the direction of our sessions to you. Where a third party is part of treatment, such as an insurance company paying for sessions, we will discuss where this fits into the decision making process, how this impacts treatment options and what is required in order for insurance to cover your psychotherapy.
If I see you and your partner or spouse together, we will talk about how this relationship differs from me seeing you as an individual, including the limitations of confidentiality and balancing both of your needs in developing goals for couples therapy. But whether you come to see me individually or as a couple, you will find me someone who offers you a safe, effective place to walk your path and get to the destination you are seeking at that time.
I want to start helping you on your journey. So, give me a call today.
